Beef-wary Europe choses Norwegian salmon

Mad cow disease, declining wild fish stocks and the approach of the holiday season have combined to push up the price of farmed salmon.

In recent days the price of Norwegian farmed salmon has increased about 4 percent in the European Union, where throughout November the average price languished slightly above the minimum price allowed under an anti-dumping agreement with the EU. A spokesman for the industry told Aftenposten that he expected the elevated levels to hold at least through Christmas.
