IBC Energy’s 4th annual conference.
The event was held in St. John’s, Newfoundland, from the 9th to 11th of April. 2013.
Sea-Hawk participated in the conference, with focus on the pre-conference topic:
Ice Management for Offshore operations.
Experiences from last Summers operation in Baffin Bay, west of Greenland was presented by Paul Herfjord. Our experiences with use of Polarimetric Radars were shared with the audience. The Sea-Hawk Ice detection Radar was in operation on 12 vessels during Seismic operations.
Other speakers presented operational and technical developments. The change in ice conditions due to climate changes gives challenges to all operators in the region.
The Danish Meteorological Institute had collected date from the Sea-Hawk Radars during three months of operation in Baffin Bay. There was a lot of interesting data found, and a sample of these findings were presented to the audience. For instance, the Radar images captured during the summer revealed more than 10 collapses of icebergs. These could be monitored on the stored radar images. From DMI’s perspective, it was clear that more research in arctic is needed.
A positive conference for all participants, and we are looking forward to next years Event.
