Another record month for Norwegian seafood

Norwegian seafood exports reached a an all time monthly high in October. 2014 so far has seen an increase of 14 percent in the exports to the same period last year.

Norwegian seafood exports totalled NOK 7.6 billion in October. An increase of NOK 393 million, or 5 per cent, compared with October 2013. This is a monthly all time high for Norwegian seafood. So far this year, the combined export value of Norwegian seafood stands at NOK 56 billion, an increase of NOK 7 billion, or 14 per cent, compared with the same period last year.

”After two years of continuous growth, salmon exports in October have flattenedout. This contrasts with record figures for exports of cod and mackerel, andfor Norwegian seafood as a whole. Seafood exports continue to grow despite the lossof the Russian market and illustrates Norway's competitive advantage withseafood from both fisheries and aquaculture. Larger volumes of mackerel, combined with better prices and larger volumes of cod were the key contributorsto October´s record figures,” says Christian Chramer, communications director forthe Norwegian Seafood Council.
