All eyes on Røkke in Kværner bid

Consolidation in the Norwegian oil services industry remains up in the air as Aker Maritime mulls whether to exercise options that would give it a 26 percent ownership share in its archrival, the global contracting giant Kværner. The European Commission, which would have to approve such a purchase, has not yet been notified of Aker Maritime's intent. Kværner executives have tried to keep Aker Maritime and its flamboyant owner, Kjell Inge Røkke, at arm's length. Yet most analysts insist that a merger of some kind is natural.
