ACE Winches, a leader in the design, manufacture and hire of hydraulic winches, marine deck machinery and provision associated personnel for the offshore oil and gas, marine and renewable energy markets, has formally created a new company in Norway.

ACE Winches Norge AS is focused upon maintaining and enhancing ACE's Scandinavian business activities. The new office provides a stronger presence in a key market and will provide the best possible support for existing and new customers.

Operating from a base at Dusavik, Stavanger, the division offers spooling and hire fleet services and will also be providing vessel bollard pull testing. It will also act as a local showcase for ACE's manufactured product range. The base comprises a 500 square metre workshop and 1,000sqm yard facility.

Norwegian Base Manager, Finn B Wold, believes the firm is well placed to take advantage of improving economic conditions. He added: "ACE Winches was already well established in the local market where it enjoyed a reputation for delivery of quality products and services and this new facility is a natural extension of its presence in Norway."

Finn, who comes from Stavanger, believes an extra 10 jobs will be created in the coming year: "There are positive signs the market is picking up and we are in a great position to make the most of that."

Derek Penny, ACE Head of Group Sales and Business Development, said: "This new company has been set up to be the catalyst to take our Norwegian activity to a new level. The opportunities to grow our business are significant and it is great to have someone of the calibre of Finn heading up this exciting new phase of growth. This is a significant step forward in terms of our stated declaration to expand internationally and enhance our profile in the global market place."

Mr Penny said the company's focus is not just upon developing the Norwegian operations. ACE's growth strategy also encompasses the Middle East and the Australian and Far Eastern markets.

ACE received the coveted Queen's Award for Enterprise 2010 International Trade in April 2010 and received a Scottish Offshore Achievement Export Award in March 2010.
