A surplus of nature's power

Norwegian hydropower plants are running full bore, setting records for both production and export to the rest of Scandinavia.

Large quantities of snow and rain in 2000 have filled reservoirs nearly to the brim and allowed producers to maximise power generation without fear of running dry. In the first 9 months of 2000 they produced nearly 105 TWh (terra watt hours), of which 15.3 TWh was exported to Sweden and Denmark. Norway is Europe's leading hydropower producer and a major exporter of power plant equipment and engineering services.
