Farming Finnish rainbow trout using Norwegian technology

A new onshore fish farm from the AKVA group will produce 3,200 tonnes of rainbow trout annually for Finnish consumers.


Export Credit Norway offers Norwegian and foreign companies competitive export financing when buying capital goods and services from Norwegian exporters.

Though its subsidiary AKVA group Denmark, the Norwegian company AKVA group has exported an onshore rainbow trout farm to the Finnish company Fifax AB in Åland.

2016 completion

The farm is currently under construction, and due to be completed in 2016. Once it begins operating at full capacity in 2017, it will produce 3,200 tonnes of rainbow trout a year, and employ between 15 and 20 people.

6,2 million financing

Export Credit Norway has provided EUR 6.2 million in financing for the fish farm, while GIEK has guaranteed the transaction. Further loan financing has been provided by Ålandsbanken.
