Mr Brown and Mr Brende were taking part in an open meeting on global education. Mr Brown said that Norway has played an important role in international health and should take a similar role in education. On the donor side there is a lack of leadership. This is critical in order to mobilize support to education, he pointed out.
Foreign Minister Brende ensured Mr Brown that Norway will continue to take responsibility in this important field. Education in the developing world is a priority for the Norwegian Government, and a white paper on global education is currently being prepared that will be a platform for a scaling up of Norwegian support.
Deputy CEO of Save the Children Norway, Mr. Yngve Seierstad Stokke, and delegate to the 2013 UN youth takeover Ms Alexandra Kensland Letelier also took part in the open meeting and debate.
