As one of the world's top three shipping-related events, Nor-Shipping is a must for catching up with what's new in the industry, meeting old friends and existing clients from around the world, and developing new contacts in a non-stop week of official and private functions. The fair attracts all the big names from across the international maritime spectrum - exhibitors and visitors - and is a great opportunity to meet representatives of Norway's hundreds of ship's gear suppliers and those from other countries face to face.
By November 2002 more than 100,000 people had already attended various exhibitions and fairs at the new venue. Visitors are without fail enthusiastic - not only about the architecture of the complex and the facilities that are available, but also about Lillestrøm's easy access from downtown Oslo.
A well-known Norwegian singer once said of Lillestrøm that "the only tourist accidentally got off the train at the wrong station". That is no longer the case. Over the last decade the community has been transformed into a thriving business and research centre, with excellent infrastructure and a greater concentration of highly educated hi-tech and chemical engineers even than Stavanger - Norway's oil-and-gas capital on the west coast.
Transport to and from the exhibition centre could not be simpler. It is located a stone's throw from Lillestrøm station on the Airport Express train route between Oslo and Oslo International Airport at Gardermoen. The journey time from Oslo Central Station is a mere 12 minutes. For visitors travelling by car or coach, the journey is around 25 minutes from downtown Oslo. Buses go frequently from Lillestrøm to Oslo and the airport.
The complex is one of the most advanced of its kind in Europe with a total capacity of nearly 33,000 square metres in three gigantic halls and a smaller hall for special events - all under one roof.
There will be no lack of space at Nor-Shipping 2003. Nor-Shipping 2001 broke records and that is again the goal. For the first time in the exhibition's 37-year history, every exhibitor that applies for space will be accommodated. The adjoining hotel's congress space will also be utilised. Norwegian summers can be unpredictable but visitors can rest assured that in this impressive new venue there will be no leaking roofs as was the case occasionally at Nor-Shipping's old home at Sjølyst!
Norway Trade Fairs has ambitious plans to boost the exhibition centre in the international arena for fairs, congresses and special events - anything from a kick-off party for a group of 20 to an exhibition designed for 100,000 visitors can be hosted. In the specially adapted Hall B, an audience of 6,000 people can enjoy concerts or participate in large-scale multimedia conferences. The layout of the complex is super-flexible, offering excellent access (through large doors up to 6.5 metres high) and exhibition space on one level. The ceiling height in one of the halls is no less than 18 metres. Ventilation and lighting are excellent.
Please visit the Nor-Shipping website or get in touch with the management team if you have any enquiries about the exhibition or the new complex, registration for the fair or other matters. We look forward to welcoming you to Lillestrøm - Nor-Shipping 2003 will be an exhibition no export-oriented company or organisation can afford to miss!
Nor-Shipping 2003: Breaking All Records
In the words of Tollef Schiander, Nor-Shipping's new exhibition director:
"The space booked for 2003 exceeds the total area sold for Nor-Shipping 2001. We expect to post our 'Sold Out' sign some time before Christmas 2002. I encourage all potential exhibitors who wish to profile their companies or organisations at the most important international shipping event in the world to do so.
We expect to break records when it comes to the number of nationalities represented and the total number of exhibitors in 2003. At Nor-Shipping 2001 we had 20 national pavilions, and by the end of October 2002, pavilions had been booked by Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, the UK, Scotland, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Austria, Spain, Russia, Croatia, Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Canada and the USA. Australia and Poland are also planning a presence. The total number of countries represented at the fair in 2001 was 51 - we hope to break that record again in 2003.
Our new venue has all the facilities one expects in a modern, purpose-built exhibition and congress centre. One of the large halls, covering more than 7,200 square metres, has no pillars whatsoever and has beams strengthened to hold weights of up to 35 tonnes. This impressive space is especially suited to pop concerts or other events at which large light or sound rigs are used.
Halls B and C have specially installed underfloor data cabling, telecommunication services, electrical power (220V and 380V), water, drainage and compressed air infrastructures. All halls have advanced air-conditioning systems that guarantee a comfortable climate even if outside temperatures soar - as they can do even in June in Norway!
To make travelling easier for exhibitors and delegates, we are also planning to make a deal with the Airport Express railway company to offer passes at reduced prices for the journey to and from downtown Oslo. A chance to relax for a quarter of an hour after a long day and before the day's round of parties begins!"
