Applications are invited for a fixed term (three years) PhD position at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)
. The primary objective of this PhD position will be to further the development of filtered reactive multiphase flow models for the simulation of large scale fluidized bed reactors. Work will be completed as part of a European Union sponsored project with a consortium of academic and industrial partners which aims to develop a multiscale simulation platform for designing efficient processes for energy conversion with integrated CO2
The PhD candidate will work closely with other specialists involved in the project in order to contribute effectively to the multiscale simulation platform being developed. In particular, the position will feature close collaboration with multiphase flow modelling experts at SINTEF Materials and Chemistry (Norway) which is also leading the project.

Applicants are strictly advised to address the following selection criteria.
- A Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related fields
- Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling
- A high level of personal responsibility and initiative
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical staff
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English
- Experience in using the commercial CFD package ANSYS FLUENT
- Experience with granular flow modelling
- A basic understanding of gas/solid fluidization
The successful candidate will be employed full-time by the NTNU for a fixed period of three years.

PhD Candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and are normally remunerated at wage level 50, gross NOK 420 800 before tax. There will be a 2 % deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross wage.
Engagement as a PhD Candidate is done in accordance with "Regulation concerning terms and conditions of employment for the posts of post-doctoral research fellow, research fellow, research assistant and resident", given by the Ministry of Education and Research of 19.07.2010. The goal of each of the announced positions is to obtain a PhD degree. Applicants will engage in an organized PhD training program, and appointment requires approval of the applicants plan for a PhD study within three months from the date of commencement.
